Description
"Burrendong Beauty," also known as Myrtle Hakea/Sea-Urchin Hakea with the botanical name Hakea myrtoides x petiolaris, is a large shrub native to Western Australia that's also suitable as groundcover. Its extremely prolific flowering produces a gorgeous display of pinkish-red to white flowers from Djeran to Makuru (autumn to winter). This versatile plant can serve as both a spectacular focal point and a natural screen in the garden.
For optimal growth, plant in well-drained soil in a sunny spot. When planting in pots, a well-draining native or premium potting mix is recommended. It doesn't have specific seasonal water requirements but does better in poorer soils when soil conditioner is added for better water retention. No need for a specific pruning regimen or fertilisation, but a low-phosphorus native fertiliser can be used if desired.
