Description

The "Savoy" cultivar of Red Cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitala) showcases striking purple-red leaves, delivering both a visual treat and a peppery culinary punch for salads and dishes. As a biennial vegetable, it seamlessly fits into gardens, pots, and herb/vege patches alike. The mature heads, tightly packed with leaves, are as decorative as they are delicious.

For optimal growth, "Savoy" can be planted in the ground, pots, or herb/vege gardens. If planting in sandy soils, it's beneficial to incorporate a quality soil conditioner. While it enjoys full sun in cool weather, during hotter periods, partial shade is preferred. Regular watering, especially during drier spells, is crucial. Boost its vigour with a nitrogen-rich fertiliser in early Djilba (spring). Come late Djilba (spring) or early Birak (late spring/early summer), when the heads are firm and of a satisfactory size, harvest by cutting just below the head.
