Description
The "All Year Round" cultivar of Cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis) offers gardeners delicious, crisp white heads that, as the name suggests, can be harvested throughout the seasons. This vegetable plant is not just for its edibility; its vibrant green leaves add a splash of colour to gardens, and when placed in pots, it can make for a delightful and practical display. A staple in various dishes, from fresh salads to warm soups, its versatility in the kitchen is undeniable.
When planting "All Year Round", opt for well-draining soil with a preference for full sun to light shade. In sandy or less fertile soils, enrich with a soil conditioner for the best results. It's essential to water consistently, especially during the warmer Birak and Bunuru (early and late summer) seasons. Fertilising with a vegetable-specific fertiliser early in the growth stage will encourage robust development. To harvest, wait for approximately 70-90 days post-planting, and cut the head off the plant when it reaches the desired size, ensuring not to wait too long lest it becomes too large and grainy.
