Description
Asparagus officinalis, commonly known just as Asparagus, is a perennial vegetable that can be planted in the ground or in pots. Providing a sunny spot and well-drained soil with regular watering helps this plant thrive. If planting in sandy or poor soils, improving the soil with organic matter can boost growth.
It takes patience to harvest as this plant requires two to three years to become fully established. Once mature, harvest the spears when they reach 15-20 centimetres tall by cutting at or just below soil level. Storing the fresh spears in the refrigerator and using them within a few days ensures optimal flavor. Fertilising regularly with a balanced fertiliser ensures a productive and long-lasting plant, yielding tasty, homegrown asparagus for your culinary delight.
