Description
The Lemon Cypress (Hesperocyparis macrocarpa, syn. Cupressus macrocarpa var. lutea) is a striking, conical conifer with bright yellow-green foliage and a refreshing lemon scent, often used in Perth as a living Christmas tree. Its vibrant colour and tidy shape make it a perfect festive feature that can transition back into a pot or garden after the holiday season, continuing to thrive as a beautiful evergreen.
To use the Lemon Cypress as a Christmas tree, place it in a location indoors where it will still receive plenty of natural sunlight, such as near a bright window. Avoid direct heat sources like air-conditioning vents or heaters. Decorate it with lightweight, non-damaging ornaments to avoid weighing down the branches. Water moderately while indoors, keeping the soil moist but not soggy. After the festive season, gradually reintroduce the plant to outdoor conditions by placing it in a shaded spot for a few days before moving it into full sun to prevent shock.
