Description
Buxus microphylla var. japonica, commonly known as the Japanese Box, is a medium-sized shrub cherished for its small, glossy green leaves that form a dense, compact canopy. It's an ideal choice for gardeners seeking a plant for hedging, borders, or topiary designs. Its inconspicuous flowers, which bloom in Makuru (winter), add subtle charm without stealing the limelight.
To ensure the Japanese Box thrives, plant it in the ground and enhance poor, sandy soils with a quality soil conditioner. It prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Regular watering will keep it looking fresh, especially during the warmer months. For optimal growth, a balanced, slow-release fertiliser applied annually in Djilba (spring) is recommended. To maintain its neat appearance, prune in early Djilba (spring).
