Description
Genista spachiana 'Yellow Imp' is a fast-growing, evergreen shrub that brings vibrant colour to gardens in Perth, Western Australia. Reaching approximately 1.5–2.0?m in height and 1.5–2.0?m in width, it features soft grey-green foliage adorned with masses of bright yellow, pea-shaped flowers during late winter and early spring (Djilba to Kambarang). These fragrant blooms attract bees and other beneficial insects, making it an excellent choice for pollinator-friendly gardens. 'Yellow Imp' thrives in full sun to part shade and is well-suited for use as a specimen plant, hedge, or container planting.
To ensure optimal growth, plant 'Yellow Imp' in well-drained soil and water regularly during the establishment phase. Once established, it exhibits good drought tolerance, making it suitable for Perth's climate. Prune annually after flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage prolific blooming in the following season. Applying a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring can further enhance its health and flowering performance.
