Description
Dianella caerulea 'Lakeview Green' is a compact, evergreen perennial native to Western Australia. This cultivar is celebrated for its rich green, strappy foliage that forms a neat, upright clump, reaching approximately 60–70 cm in height and 50–60 cm in width. In late spring to early summer (Birak), it produces small blue flowers with yellow centres, which are followed by attractive blue berries, adding year-round interest to gardens. 'Lakeview Green' is well-suited for mass plantings, borders, or as a specimen in small areas, providing year-round colour and form. It prefers a sunny position in well-drained soil and is tolerant of dry periods and light frost.
In Perth's climate, Dianella caerulea 'Lakeview Green' thrives in full sun to part shade and is adaptable to various soil types, including heavy clay or free-draining media. It is drought-tolerant and can withstand exposed and windy conditions, making it ideal for coastal gardens. Regular maintenance includes removing dead foliage to maintain a neat appearance and occasional fertilisation with a slow-release fertiliser. Additionally, cutting back the plant every 1–2 years encourages new growth and maintains its compact form.
