Description

Coastal Sheoak (Casuarina equisetifolia) is a hardy Australian native tree, primarily found along coastal areas of Western Australia, Queensland, and the Northern Territory. This evergreen tree is well adapted to coastal environments, thriving in salty air and sandy soils, making it a popular choice for erosion control, windbreaks, and natural landscaping. Coastal Sheoak’s feathery, needle-like foliage and elegant, slender form add a soft, graceful presence to gardens and natural spaces.

Growing between 8–15 metres tall and spreading 5–8 metres wide, it is ideal for larger outdoor areas, whether planted in sandy garden beds or expansive landscapes. This tree prefers full sun to part shade and tolerates well-drained, sandy soils with low water requirements, once established. Its small, inconspicuous flowers bloom in Winter (Makuru) to Early Spring (Djilba), followed by small cone-like fruit that attracts native wildlife.
