Description

Cotyledon orbiculata x tomentosa subsp. ladismithiensis 'Dan's Delight,' also known as Pig's Ear, Round-Leafed Navel Wort, or Bear's Paw, is a delightful hybrid succulent that originates from South Africa and adapts well to Perth’s sunny conditions. This compact evergreen grows to around 40-50 cm in height and width, forming dense, rounded mounds of succulent foliage that are ideal for garden beds, rockeries, or container displays. The leaves are thick, fuzzy, and covered with a velvety layer, which gives them a unique texture and provides some protection from the sun, making this plant ideal for full-sun positions. 'Dan's Delight' thrives in pots as well as garden beds with well-drained, gritty soil, ensuring its roots remain healthy.

In Late Spring (Kambarang) and Early Summer (Birak), this plant produces tubular, coral to reddish-orange flowers, adding a vibrant contrast against its green foliage. With low water requirements, it is drought-tolerant and only needs occasional deep watering, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. This hardy, low-maintenance plant is a perfect addition for Perth gardeners seeking a striking succulent with interesting texture and seasonal blooms, bringing colour and charm to xeriscapes and water-wise gardens.
