Description
Cucumis sativus 'Lebanese,' commonly known as Lebanese Cucumber, is a popular cultivar originating from South Asia. Known for its slender, smooth-skinned fruits and mild, refreshing taste, this variety is ideal for Perth’s warm growing season and can be grown in outdoor garden beds or large pots with trellis support. Reaching around 1-2 metres in height as a climbing vine, Lebanese cucumbers prefer a full sun position and rich, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. They thrive with regular watering, especially during warm weather, but should be allowed to drain well to avoid root rot.
Sow Lebanese cucumbers from Early Spring (Djilba) to Late Spring (Kambarang) and harvest during Early Summer (Birak) when the fruits reach around 10–15 cm in length. Their small, thin skins make them perfect for fresh eating without peeling, and they add a crisp, hydrating element to salads, sandwiches, and pickles. Lebanese cucumbers are also valued for their high water content, making them a healthy choice for summer hydration. Their easy growth and reliable yield make them a favourite for home gardens in Perth’s climate.
