Description
Ficus elastica 'Tineke' is a striking variegated cultivar of the Rubber Tree, known for its glossy green leaves with creamy white margins and splashes of pale pink or light green. This eye-catching plant is perfect for adding a tropical touch to indoor spaces, patios, or gardens. When grown in pots, it remains compact, reaching 1.5 - 2.5 M, while in the ground, it can become a substantial tree.
Plant 'Tineke' in free-draining soil and place it in bright, indirect sunlight to maintain its vibrant variegation, although it can tolerate full sun. Water sparingly, allowing the top layer of soil to dry out before watering again. Clean the leaves occasionally to keep them glossy and free of dust. Feed with a balanced fertiliser during the growing season to encourage healthy foliage. This cultivar is versatile and thrives in pots or garden beds, making it an excellent choice for Perth's climate.
Ficus trees are known for their strong, invasive roots. If planting in the ground, ensure adequate distance from reticulation systems or infrastructure to avoid potential damage. In pots, regularly check that roots have not grown through the drainage holes and into the ground.
