Description
The "Blue Java" cultivar of the Banana (Musa x paradisiaca) is an exceptional garden addition, celebrated not only for its broad, tropical foliage but also for its uniquely flavoured fruit that bears a striking resemblance to ice cream in both taste and texture. This variety tends to flower about 10 months post-planting, though cooler periods can extend this timeline until warmer Djilba (early spring) temperatures arrive. Once flowering commences, fruit development ensues, transitioning from robust flower clusters to the creamy, silvery-blue bananas by Kambarang (late spring).
Positioning the "Blue Java" in a sunny spot with well-draining soil is vital. When situated in sandy terrains, enriching the ground with a generous amount of soil conditioner greatly enhances its potential. This banana variant requires consistent hydration, especially during the height of Bunuru (summer). Come Djilba (early spring), treat it to a dose of high-potassium, slow-release fertiliser to encourage vibrant health and robust yields. When the fruits display a fuller, plumper appearance, typically within 90 to 150 days following flowering, it indicates harvesting readiness. Opt for a gentle cut of the fruit cluster, retaining a small segment of stem to foster optimal post-harvest ripening.
