Description
The Bottlebrush "Little Jet", a variant of Melaleuca saligna (Syn. Callistemon), graces gardens with its red floral displays during Djilba (spring). Native to Australia, this very compact small shrub boasts large, broad leaves with a striking bronze hue as they unveil in their new growth phase. An excellent choice for small gardens, containers, or as a low hedge, "Little Jet" complements various garden styles with its dramatic foliage and vibrant flowers.
For optimal growth, it favours sun-drenched sites when planted in the ground, and though it thrives in most soil types, amending poor, sandy soils with a quality soil conditioner enhances its performance. As a hardy species, "Little Jet" predominantly needs water during intense Bunuru (summer) heat waves once established. To keep this shrub in top condition, fertilise with a suitable native plant fertiliser in Djilba (spring) and consider a gentle prune post-flowering in Kambarang (late spring) to encourage fresh bronze-tinted growth.
