Description
"Matthew Flinders", a cultivar of the Bottlebrush and a hybrid of Melaleuca 'Captain Cook' and 'Little John' (Syn. Callistemon), captivates with its brilliant red blossoms that come alive in Djilba (spring). Native to Australia, this beautiful mounding low shrub is a garden standout, flowering magnificently and is a person favourite of Kambarang Garden Centre. Its graceful form and stunning floral display make it a top pick for creating vibrant borders, garden highlights, or as a radiant solo feature in pots.
When planting "Matthew Flinders" in the ground, ensure it has a sunny spot and well-draining soil; those with sandy terrain should enrich with a quality soil conditioner. Remarkably hardy, it's content with minimal additional watering but might appreciate a bit during the intense heat of Bunuru (summer). To keep this delightful shrub flourishing, apply a native plant fertiliser in Djilba (spring) and consider a light prune after its flowering season in Kambarang (late spring) to keep its compact shape.
