Description
The ‘Marisol’ Mandarin (Citrus reticulata) is a highly desirable citrus cultivar known for its sweet, easy-to-peel fruit and lush evergreen foliage. Originating from South-East Asia, Japan, and China, this variety thrives in Perth’s sunny climate. Plant ‘Marisol’ in full sun for best results, though it will tolerate part shade. It is well-suited for garden beds or large pots, as long as the soil is well-draining, sandy, or loamy and enriched with compost. If grown in a pot, using a premium citrus potting mix is recommended.
Flowering in Early Spring (Djilba) through to Late Summer (Bunuru), ‘Marisol’ produces small white blooms tinged with purple, adding fragrance to the garden. The fruit can be harvested when it reaches a deep orange hue and feels firm yet slightly tender to touch. ‘Marisol’ Mandarins are excellent for fresh eating, juicing, or adding to salads and desserts. Regular and consistent watering during warmer months is key to achieving juicy fruit and preventing any splitting. Handle with care, as some citrus varieties may have thorns.
