Description
Eremophila maculata 'Allara' is a compact, evergreen shrub native to Australia, particularly well-suited to Perth's climate. It features lush green foliage and produces an abundance of pale lemon to yellow tubular flowers from winter through to summer (Makuru to Birak), with the most prolific blooming occurring during early spring (Djilba). This extended flowering period not only adds vibrant colour to gardens but also attracts nectar-feeding birds and insects, enhancing local biodiversity. 'Allara' typically reaches 1.2 M in both height and width, making it ideal for garden beds, borders, or as a low hedge.
Thriving in full sun, 'Allara' prefers sandy to loamy, well-draining soils. While it is drought-hardy once established, providing additional water during prolonged dry spells or heatwaves will promote optimal growth and flowering. Minimal pruning is required; however, light trimming after the main flowering period can encourage a denser growth habit. Applying a slow-release, low-phosphorus fertiliser in autumn (Djeran) can support vigorous growth and abundant flowering. This resilient shrub is well-adapted to Perth's conditions, offering both aesthetic appeal and ease of care.
