Description

Ficus benjamina 'Midnight Petite' is a compact cultivar of the popular Weeping Fig, ideal for smaller spaces while retaining the classic elegance of the species. Its small, glossy, dark green leaves and compact, bushy growth habit make it perfect for both indoor and outdoor settings. When planted in the ground, it can grow up to 5 M tall and 4 M wide, while in pots, it remains manageable at 1 - 2 M, making it a versatile choice for patios or indoor features. 'Midnight Petite' prefers bright, indirect sunlight but can tolerate full sun with appropriate care.

Plant 'Midnight Petite' in well-draining, nutrient-rich soil, and water moderately, ensuring the topsoil dries out slightly between waterings. Feed with a balanced fertiliser during the growing season to support healthy growth. Pruning can help maintain its compact size and shape, particularly when grown in containers. This cultivar is well-suited to Perth’s climate and requires minimal maintenance, making it an excellent choice for gardeners and plant enthusiasts alike.

Ficus plants have strong, invasive roots. Care should be taken when planting in the ground to avoid planting too close to reticulation systems or infrastructure. In pots, monitor regularly to ensure the roots don’t grow through drainage holes into the ground, as this can cause structural issues and complicate removal.
