Description
Hibiscus rosa-sinensis 'Mrs. George Davis' is a popular evergreen shrub renowned for its rapid growth and vibrant, double-headed pink flowers. Reaching heights and widths of 2 to 3 metres, it serves as an excellent choice for hedges, screens, or as a standout feature in garden beds. The glossy, slightly toothed green leaves provide a lush backdrop to the abundant blooms, which appear from summer through to winter (Birak to Makuru).
For optimal growth in Perth's climate, plant 'Mrs. George Davis' in a sunny, sheltered position with well-drained soil. Regular watering is essential, especially during the establishment phase and the hotter months, to maintain soil moisture without causing waterlogging. Applying a balanced fertiliser during the growing season will promote healthy foliage and prolific flowering. Pruning after the main flowering period helps maintain the desired shape and encourages new growth. Mulching around the base can assist in retaining soil moisture and regulating temperature. This cultivar thrives in garden beds and can also be grown in large pots, making it versatile for various landscape designs.
